He may be getting older, but he’s far from finished — just ask Benjamin Choquert. The Frenchman proved experience counts as he stormed to victory at the Duathlon World Championships in Pontevedra, calling upon every ounce of his speed and resilience to secure the title in a thrilling finish. Afterwords he spoke the almost historical words: “The old Choquert is not finished, it’s just a new beginning”.
The duathlon, which opened the World Triathlon Multisport Championships, saw 45 elite athletes line up for a fast and fiercely contested race across a 5-kilometer run, 30-kilometer bike, and final 5-kilometer run. Choquert, a seasoned duathlete, executed a perfectly timed race strategy to edge out his rivals in the final stages.
Crossing the finish line in 1:14:37, Choquert held off a hard-charging Arnaud Dely of Belgium and Spain’s Antonio Serrat Seoane — both clocking 1:14:41 — in a battle that came down to mere seconds.
