Extreme weather conditions in Barcelona, Ironman called off less than one day before the race

Ironman is having bad luck with weather conditions; just a week after the organizer had to cancel Ironman 70.3 New York days before the event due to a storm, the exact same thing happened today with Ironman Barcelona. The more than three thousand (Age Group) athletes who were registered received word this afternoon that the race has been canceled.

The race, which actually takes place in Calella (about fifty kilometers outside Barcelona), is completely canceled. The region is experiencing extreme weather conditions; numerous videos circulating on the internet show flooded streets and even floating cars. Unsurprisingly, the official advice is to cancel all outdoor activities and sporting events.

The Catalan coast has been suffering under severe weather for two days, and a Mediterranean mini-hurricane is potentially expected on Sunday. Ironman advises athletes, supporters, and volunteers to stay indoors.
