Jan Frodeno on his way to Miami after travel complications nearly kept him from racing Challenge Miami

When Jan Frodeno arrived at the airport to fly out to Miami, last Thursday, it turned out he didn’t have the right travel documents to enter the United States. While his travel companions did have the right documents and were allowed on board, Frodeno was sent home. It looked like Challenge Miami wasn’t going to happen for the German athlete.

Frodeno’s management seems to have worked day and night since then to arrange the right papers for him. Frodeno just shared a message, saying: “It’s been a crazy few days. Phone calls, E-mails, back and forth, back and forth. I’m at the airport. Friday, first race of the season. Cannot wait. So excited. Despite all the ups and downs it’s been going pretty good. Looking forward to be getting in a little nap on the flight and then stretching out the legs on the other side.”

Frodeno now has three days to get used to the time change and climate. Upcoming Friday at 1 pm (ET) the men’s pro race kicks off. There will be live coverage of the event.
