Alistair Brownlee’s book “Relentless: Secrets of the Sporting Elite” coming in July

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Alistair Brownlee sure likes to stay busy. The only person to ever defend an Olympic triathlon title (2012 and 2016) is hoping to get back for a fourth Olympics in Tokyo this summer and has already qualified for the Ironman World Championship this October. He’s also got a new book that will be released on July 8: Relentless: Secrets of the Sporting Elite.

According to the publisher HarperCollins, the new book “follows a four-year quest by Brownlee to discover the secret of ‘sporting greatness,’ interviewing and training with some of the greatest minds in sport to discover what it takes to become and remain a champion.”

A number of sports stars are interviewed in the book including Tour de France champion Chris Froome, marathon record holder Paula Radcliffe and Olympic swim star Ian Thorpe. Those interviews help Brownlee “explore a range of sports and environments – athletics, cycling, football, rugby, horseracing, hockey, cricket, golf, motor racing, snooker and ultra-running – to reveal how talent alone is never enough and how hard work, pain, pressure, stress, risk, focus, sacrifice, innovation, reinvention, passion, ruthlessness, luck and even failure can all play a crucial part in honing a winning mentality and achieving sustained success.”
