World Triathlon has decided to move the 2021 World Triathlon Junior Championships to Quarteira, Portugal (Nov. 6-7), as the events in Bermuda were recently cancelled. It’s not the first time the next generation will race in Quarteira: in previous years the city hosted the Europe Triathlon Junior Cup too.
“We really want to thank the Portuguese National Federation, the local organizing committee and Europe Triathlon for their willingness to step up and add the Junior World Championships to the program of Quarteira,” World Triathlon President Marisol Casado stated in a press release. “With the Juniors already having missed their World Championships last year due to the pandemic, it was very important for us to give them the opportunity to compete this year so that the athletes will have at least one chance of competing at the highest level before moving out of this age group.”
