Mylaps Sports Timing signed with Ironman Europe in 2021, providing race timing, results and live tracking data at 30 races in over 10 countries. The two companies have extended the partnership for an additional year through to the end of 2024.

“We are satisfied with the first year of our close partnership,” says Stefan Lenhard, Ironman EMEA’s Director of Technical Operation. “Accurate and reliable timing data is a crucial element of the race experience for participants and their followers. We strive to offer the ultimate experience for our athletes and are confident that we can rely on the expertise of Mylaps Sports Timing.”

Mylaps Sports Timing was formed in 2008 when a pair of Dutch companies – AMB i.t. and ChampionChip – merged. AMB i.t. started in 1982 in Haarlem, The Netherlands, when two friends who were radio-controlled car fans came up with the idea to develop transponder timing. Within a few years their system was being used by NASCAR and IndyCar. ChampionChip started in 1993 in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, when the company developed a timing system for mass running events. Both companies continued to develop innovative and groundbreaking timing technology over the years. In 2000 ChampionChip made it possible to time laps when it developed the first multi-loop timing system, and in 2003 the company developed an online service. The company times over 20 million athletes a year.

The company has continued to develop new products, some of which were utilized this year at the Ironman events in Europe.

“We look back on an exciting season with one of the most iconic names in the mass event industry,” says Arno Kempenaar, Director of MYLAPS Event Timing. “We used our Mylaps ProChip active timing system with an accuracy up to 0.003 second. Our newly launched ProChip Smart Decoder, which is the smallest and lightest timing decoder in the industry, proved to be a great addition to our setup. We look forward to the coming years to offer the best timing experience together with our local partners across Europe.”
