Injury keeps Sebastian Kienle from opening race season at Ironman 70.3 Florida

Even though he is able to do a bit of running again, Sebastian Kienle won’t be racing Ironman 70.3 Florida next weekend (Apr. 18, 2021). The German has been struggling with an Achilles injury for a while now and says he still needs time to recover. “I planned to do Ironman 70.3 Florida as my first race, but I have to be patient,” he wrote on Instagram.

If his injury heals well and quickly, he hopes to toe the line at Ironman 70.3 St. George on May 1. That means we will have to wait a while before we get to see Kienle back in action. Many of his biggest rivals have already had their share of racing in 2021 at Challenge Miami, and some are getting ready for next weekend’s Ironman 70.3 Texas and Challenge Shepparton. Kienle wasn’t – and won’t be – present at any of these events, but will hopefully kick off a fresh race season on May 1: “f everything goes right, I do Ironman 70.3 St. George and then one big bucket list race: Challenge St. Pölten.”
