The professional women will have their own race for the Ironman European Championship this year – they will race at Ironman Finland Kuopio-Tahko on August 14, while the men and age group athletes will compete at the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt on August 15.
Both races will be shown live on Ironman’s Facebook Watch page. The event in Frankfurt will also be seen live on hr TV in Germany. Both races will offer a US$75,000 prize purse and offer three professional qualifying slots for the Ironman World Championship in Kailu-Kona, Hawaii in October.
“Following the success of the 2019 Women for Tri race for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Ironman Copenhagen, which was won by current World Champion Anne Haug, professional women will this year share the full stage in Finland with the continent’s biggest title on the line,” Ironman said in a release earlier today.
This is the first time Finland will host an Ironman championship event. In 2023 the country will host the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Lahti on August 26 and 27.
