Belgian triathlete passed away during swim Chtriman race

The Chtriman triathlon in Gravelines – a full- and middle distance event in France – should have been a big celebration, but it ended up being a sad day after it turned out that a Belgian athlete had passed away during the swim leg. The triathlete likely suffered a heart attack. On the side of the water, emergency services performed CPR, but moments later it was determined that the athlete had passed away.

According to French media, it was a 47-year-old Belgian triathlete who was participating in the middle distance event. The athlete was out there racing on his own and swimming somewhere in the back of the field. Since so many athletes were already out on the bike course, the race continued.
