Lucy Charles on winning Ironman 70.3 World Championship [VIDEO]

“There was definitely a point in the pre-race press conference when I wanted to say, ‘I’m here to win’. But I didn’t want to get that confused with arrogance. I had confidence and I believed that I could win. But anything can happen in a race, and you can’t control what everyone else is doing.”

Lucy Charles finally did what she’s been aiming to do for quite some years now: becoming a world champion. Last Saturday, it happened during the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in St. George. “The day itself just panned out like in a dream scenario, where I got away on the swim straight away, managed to get a great gap on that swim, extended that lead throughout the bike and then got onto the run; I felt really good and knew that I wasn’t under pressure, so I could almost enjoy the half-marathon.” Charles talks us through the race in an inspiring video recap:
