The Professional Triathletes Organisation has announced a new Pro-Am Series in partnership with Herbalife Nutrition. The first event in the series will take place May 15, 2022 at the Herbalife24 Los Angeles Triathlon.
“The PTO Pro-AM series will combine age-grouper and professional racing and include a professional race with $100,000 prize purse, as well as a Celebrity Team Relay that will see the world’s greatest PTO Professionals racing alongside age-grouper teammates in a Pro-AM format, all to be fully broadcast to a worldwide audience,” the PTO said in a release today. “In addition to the full roll out of the PTO Pro-AM in 2022, the PTO will support the 2021 Herbalife24 Los Angeles Triathlon taking place on Sunday, October 24th with an increase of $17,000 USD to the existing professional prize, taking the total purse to $40,000.”
This year’s Los Angeles Triathlon is set to take place on Oct. 24. The inaugural race took place in 2019. The race starts in Venice Beach and finishes in downtown Los Angeles.
“Triathlon has a rich history of age-groupers and professionals sharing the same passions, struggles, triumphs and challenges, all on the same course,” says PTO Executive Chairman Charles Adamo. “No matter what your level, being a triathlete is a bonding experience to be celebrated. The PTO Pro-AM series will allow PTO Professionals and age-groupers to celebrate the comradery our sport breeds in a festival-like environment where both professionals and age-groupers together get to appreciate the joy of our sport. We are thrilled to partner with Herbalife to add this exciting format to the triathlon calendar. There could be no better place for a celebrity event than downtown Los Angeles, the global home of film and entertainment.”
