Upcoming Sunday, Jonathan Brownlee follows in the footsteps of his older brother – Alistair Brownlee – as he’s about to take on a whole new challenge: the successful British short-distance triathlete and Olympic gold medalist will take on his first Middle Distance during Ironman 70.3 Cascais. Given the tough bike course, it will straight away be the ultimate test to see how Brownlee copes with a non-drafting race.

Of course, it’s hard to tell whether Brownlee can translate his short-distance speed to this longer distance, but considering his impressive palmares he could still be considered a race favorite. He’s definitely not the only big name traveling out there. Some other star athletes on the start list are Magnus Ditlev (DEN), Bart Aernouts (BEL), Sam Laidlow (FRA), Casper Stornes (NOR) and Cyril Viennot (FRA).

With a big battle between Jan Frodeno and Gustav Iden set for Sunday too – at Ironman California – triathlon fans get ready for a nice weekend of racing.
