After organizing the World Triathlon Multisport Championships in 2019, Pontevedra is given the honor of organizing another big World Triathlon event: the 2023 World Triathlon Championship Finals. In Pontevedra the world title will be at stake for Elite, U23 and Para triathletes, but also for Age Group athletes with the Sprint Distance, Standard Distance and Aquabike World Championships.

The Championship Final is one of the most important races on the World Triathlon calendar. Other cities that organized this event include London, Budapest, Beijing, Auckland, Chicago, Gold Coast, Lausanne and Edmonton. In 2022 the finals will take place in Abu Dhabi.

Pontevedra is home to some amazing triathletes, among them pro athletes Javier Gomez Noya and Pablo Dapena Gonzalez. “I have raced pretty much all the World Triathlon Finals, in some of the most incredible cities around the world, but words can not describe how excited I am that a small town like Pontevedra, my hometown, will be now among the top cities to host triathlon events”, five-time world champion, Gomez Noya, comments. “I know the city, I know the organizers and I can promise that we are all ready to host the most important triathlon in the world in 2023”, he adds.
