Australian Ashleigh Gentle is saying goodbye to World Triathlon racing. She announced this via Instagram. Gentle will continu racing, as she will be focusing on longer distance triathlons in the coming years.

Highlights of Gentle’s career include a 26th place at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, win at the 2017 Mixed Relay World Championships, win at the 2018 World Triathlon Grand Final Gold Coast and first place at the 2019 Mooloolaba ITU Triathlon World Cup.

“After starting my World Triathlon journey as a 16 year old at Junior World champs, there is absolutely no way I can summarise my experiences over the last 15 years in one Instagram post. Although I can say that I had some of the best times of my life racing on the blue carpet, and my early years on the circuit racing my childhood heroes is definitely a highlight. I didn’t achieve what I wanted in my two Olympic campaigns, but it’s time I picked myself back up to chase some new dreams. In 2022 I will be stepping away from racing World Triathlon with Tri Australia, and I’ll be taking on some new challenges in the middle distance world. Thank you so much to those who have supported me through it all. I’m feeling excited about the new direction.”
