After Marten van Riel and Pieter Heemeryck announced to switch coaches, now Sam Appleton mentions he’s decided to join another coach in 2022. “At the beginning of this year, I made a coaching change from Matt Dixon at Purple Patch Fitness to Tim Reed.”
“It’s been a great five years with Matt, and I’m grateful for the journey we took together. With Matt in my corner, we achieved many highs in this sport, but it’s time for me to make a change”, Appleton said.
It’s a big change, but it will feel like coming home to Appleton, because he trained under Reed’s supervision before. “As my coach in 2014 and 2015, Tim took me from domestic pretender to international contender. We parted ways at the end of 2015 for Tim to focus on his racing, but as they say: ‘if you love something, let it free. If it comes back to you, it was meant to be’ or something along those lines.” Reed himself achieved great things as a professional triathlete, winning Ironman Australia and becoming the Ironman 70.3 World Champion in 2016.
“I’m excited about this new chapter in my career as we focus on Ironman racing heading forward this year and into the future”, Appleton concluded the announcement.
