With everything going on in the world right now, racing almost seems trivial, but tomorrow many athletes will still toe the line at Ironman 70.3 Dubai. Switzerland’s Daniela Ryf is one of them. While she aims for gold, she has the situation in Ukraine on her mind too. On Instagram, the multiple Ironman world champion shared a photo of herself racking her bike in the transition area, saying: “The world is facing much bigger challenges at the moment.”

“My thoughts are with the people in Ukraine and everyone who’s fighting for peace around the world”, Ryf continues to say. “That’s why tomorrow’s race lays under the sign of showing that we should fight in sports, and not in war. The price money I win tomorrow, I will donate to the Swiss Red Cross, which helps the people in need in Ukraine.”
