After the first Ironman 70.3 Tiberias race last November, Israel will host the first Ironman Israel Middle East Championship in the city on Nov. 25, 2022. As a regional championship, the race will offer 75 qualifying slots to the 2023 Ironman World Championship, and will also have a pro field.
“After the success of the IRONMAN 70.3 event last year, I am pleased to announce that the follow-up will see Israel host the full distance IRONMAN Middle East Championship in Tiberias, overlooking the spectacular and historically significant Sea of Galilee,” says honorary president of the Middle East Championship, Sylvan Adams. “As it is a regional championship, Ironman Israel will attract the finest athletes from all across our region and beyond. We are looking forward to welcoming thousands of athletes from neighboring countries to the beautiful Galilee for what will surely be an historic event.”
Adams is a Canadian/ Israeli businessman who is co-owner of the Israel Start-Up Nation professional cycling team.
The race starts and finishes in Tiberias, which is in northern Israel. The 3.8 km swim takes place in the Sea of Galilee. It’s followed by a two-lap, 180-km, bike ride around the Sea of Galilee. The four-lap, 42.2-km run, follows the west shore of the Sea of Galilee from Tiberias to Migdal.
Ironman 70.3 Tiberias will take place the same day as the full-distance event. You can find out more information about Ironman Israel here.
