“How it started and how it’s going.” In a few weeks time, a dream will come true for pro triathlete Justin Metzler, who currently prepares to race his first Ironman World Championship, this year taking place in St. George. A training session on some “holy ground” in St. George, made Metzler think of how it all started. Metzler qualified for the Ironman World Championship by finishing second during last year’s Ironman Coeur d’Alene, won by America’s Sam Long.
“I just finished my final 20-mile run on the World Championship course and got a little teary eyed thinking about how much this means to me”, he says. “Tell this kid he would be lining up with the best in the world in a few weeks… It would be a dream come true”, he writes under some old photos of himself.
“As I enter these final three weeks, I’ll try to remember those moments when I was this kid thinking of what ‘could be’ and how I made it my reality.”
