This upcoming Sunday Jun. 12 1100 athletes will battle up the infamous ‘Muur’ (wall) of Challenge Geraardsbergen. Local favorite Pieter Heemeryck highlights the start list in the men’s race, and in the women’s event all eyes are on fellow Belgian Alexandra Tondeur.

Athletes will have to battle up the wall two times during the 90K bike ride. The cobblestone wall has an average gradient of 7.8 percent and is approximately 1000 meters long.

Heemeryck can expect competition from fellow Belgian athletes Pamphiel Pareyn and Timothy van Houtem. The latter won Challenge Madrid in 2018. Germany’s Marc Eggeling, fourth place finisher at Ironman 70.3 Kraichgau, will also be in the mix for the victory, just like France’s Anthony Costes.

In the women’s race, America’s Nicole Falcaro and Dutch Diede Diederiks will try to give Tondeur a hard time. Italy’s Margie Santimaria – podium finisher at last month’s Challenge Malta – is a dangerous outsider.

You can follow the race from 11 AM CET through live updates and timing at www.challenge-family.live.
