In a rainy Menen, Belgium, Belgium’s Noah Servais and Italy’s Giada Stegani crowned themselves European Aquathlon Champions over 1,000 meters of swimming and 5 kilometers of running. The race was barely watchable due to non-working timing – still incomplete even hours after the race – and a livestream with one camera focused on the finish line all day.
The fact that Europe Triathlon apparently does not take its own Aquathlon seriously does not make Servais’ and Stegani’s victories any less impressive. Stegani – An U23-athlete – won her race in a time of 32:37, staying 10 seconds ahead of Ukraine’s Maryna Kyryk (32:47). Belgium’s Katrien Maes finished third in 33:03.
In the men’s race, the win went to the Belgian Servais. He won the race in 28:16, twelve seconds ahead of Spaniard Kevin Tarek Vinuela Gonzalez, who finished after 28:28. Third was Belgian Tuur Lemmens, who secured a podium spot after 28:37.
