As part of the newly announced Ironman Pro Series, the IM European Championship Hamburg event in Germany is to host the first full distance Ironman Pro Series race in Europe. Ironman has reported that the IM European Championship Hamburg race has already reached sell out status.
Scheduled for June 2, 2024, the IM European Championship Hamburg will be a female pro race as part of next year’s Ironman Pro Series. Europe’s male pros will also race in Germany as part of the new series, on August 18, 2024, at the IM European Championship Frankfurt.
With a sell-out field in 2024, the Ironman European Championship Hamburg will see athletes from 66 nations swim-bike-run their way around Germany’s second largest city.
Since 2022, the Hamburg event has hosted the IM European Championship for professionals, with a rotation between professional women and men set to take place every year.
In 2022, Laura Philipp (GER) was crowned Ironman European Champion with a time of 08:18.20, a world best Ironman finish time. In 2023, it was Frenchman, Denis Chevrot who took the men’s Ironman European Champion crown in an impressive time of 7:26.21. In 2024 the European Championship will rotate back to the professional women.
Billed as a performance-based world series, new in 2024, the IRONMAN Pro Series will see professional triathletes vie for the title of series champion and a share of a US$1.7 million in year-end bonus pool payouts after 12 months of racing action.
