Professional athletes were ready for the start of their race, but just before the gun of Challenge Sandefjord sounded, they were told that the race was being cancelled. By order of the police, it was decided that the course was not safe enough and so the race could not take place.
For professional athletes, this is of course very painful. Striking detail: earlier today some Age Group races did take place – and without problems. It was the first edition of Challenge Sandefjord, a race promoted by Kristian Blummenfelt, among others. The weather didn’t exactly help either; strong winds earlier caused the pro start to be delayed by half an hour.
Participants will hear more about compensation this afternoon, possibly in the form of a free slot for next year’s race.
