When Challenge Sir Bani Yas was announced by Challenge Family two months ago, it was pretty clear that the race was going to be quite unique. How unique the race will actually be is only now becoming apparent, as the video below reveals more and more about the race, which will take place in Abu Dhabi over the weekend of April 3-7.
The race – where athletes can choose between a Long Distance and Middle Distance, among others – will take place on one of the largest natural islands in the United Arab Emirates: the Sir Bani Yas Island. The island where the race will take place is known, among other things, for its rich animal population. As many as 17,000 different animals live there in the wild, including the Arabian oryx, gazelles, giraffes, hyenas and cheetahs. Athletes travel to Abu Dhabi themselves, boarding a luxury cruise ship with the other participants that sails them to the race site and which is also their residence for the days surrounding the race.
