Triathlon continues its strong surge across South America, as World Triathlon officially adds San Pedro de la Paz, Chile, to its 2025 World Cup calendar. Set for the weekend of November 8-9, the newly minted Sprint Distance event promises to be more than just another race – it represents a symbolic and strategic milestone for the sport’s global expansion.

Tucked between the mountains and the Pacific, San Pedro de la Paz offers a visually striking and logistically smart stop for triathletes. Just days after the World Cup race in Viña del Mar and a fortnight following the Brasilia event, this late-season Chilean showdown completes a three-race stretch across South America that will be both grueling and exhilarating for athletes and spectators alike.

The 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run format – set against a backdrop of rugged desert and mountain terrain – offers a fast and furious close to the season’s American swing. But the real victory lies beyond the finish line.

“This isn’t just another event – it’s a celebration of growth,” said World Triathlon President Antonio Arimany. “The San Pedro race gives Southern Hemisphere athletes a rare chance to compete at home in a world-class field, and caps off a remarkable run of events across Mexico, Brazil, and now Chile.”

Indeed, with four World Cup races now confirmed for the region in 2025, South America is fast becoming a hotspot on the global triathlon map. The San Pedro de la Paz event reinforces that momentum, creating vital opportunities for emerging talent and raising the sport’s profile in areas long underrepresented on the international stage.

World Triathlon also credited the Chilean Federation and America Triathlon for their commitment to growing the sport and securing high-caliber races in the Americas.
