Canyon Bicycles has announced a significant leadership shift: company founder Roman Arnold will return in an operational role as Executive Chairman, effective September 1st. The move marks a renewed emphasis on Canyon’s origins and its long-term strategic direction, as Arnold takes a more active role in shaping the company’s future.

Arnold, who established Canyon in Koblenz, Germany, built the brand into one of the most recognized names in cycling (and later triathlon, ed.), known for its direct-to-consumer model and focus on performance innovation. His return signals an effort to reconnect with those founding principles while steering the brand into its next growth phase.

This change comes as Nicolas de Ros Wallace steps down as CEO by mutual agreement, after leading the company for more than three and a half years. During his tenure, Canyon’s revenues nearly doubled to close to €800 million. De Ros Wallace is credited with expanding Canyon’s global presence, professionalizing its organizational structure, and strengthening its position in the premium cycling market.

Arnold praised his departing successor, highlighting the progress made under de Ros Wallace’s leadership and describing it as a strong foundation for the company’s future. In return, de Ros Wallace expressed pride in the achievements of his tenure and confidence in Canyon’s ongoing trajectory.

Looking ahead, Canyon has stated it will continue to focus on sustainable global growth, with investments in product innovation, digital capabilities, and organizational development. The company has emphasized that it will remain committed to its founding ethos: building world-class bikes that inspire riders, serve passionate communities, and support athletes at the highest level of competition.

For athletes and triathletes in particular, Canyon’s evolution will be closely watched. The brand has become a major player in the sport, with its bikes seen regularly on the podiums of international triathlon and cycling events. Arnold’s renewed involvement may represent both a return to Canyon’s entrepreneurial roots and a step toward shaping its role in the future of competitive cycling and endurance sports.
