You either love him or you don’t – especially when it comes to his jokes, often at the expense of fellow pros – but there’s no denying that Cameron Wurf remains one of the true characters of professional triathlon. At 42, the Australian continues to be one of the sport’s great entertainers, and despite an outrageously long season, he has already punched his ticket to the 2026 Ironman World Championship in Kona. “I seem to be allergic to sitting still.”

Last weekend, Wurf delivered a powerful performance at Ironman Chattanooga, finishing second – just enough to secure one of the coveted Kona slots. “I spent the day flirting between feeling fresh, f***d, flying, & flagging. All the while I had Trevor Foley breathing down my neck fighting for the final Kona Slot available. In Ironman, it’s earned not given. Thanks my man for never giving up despite your struggles out there, I’ll cherish this tussle, you’re pure class.”

Earning it is what Wurf does best. Just weeks ago, he was on the start line at the Ironman World Championship in Nice. This year alone, he’s raced four Long Distance triathlons, logged professional cycling miles in the peloton, and still found time to put in mammoth training blocks – including 300-kilometer rides with over 10,000 meters of climbing.

Now, though, even Wurf is ready for a break. “I’m looking forward to the off-season because it means I can finally do some other sports”, naming golf, surfing, and skiing.
