Tonight marks the first major Ironman race of the season, and it brings some of the sport’s biggest names to the start line. At 7:45 CET, the professional men will begin their race at Ironman New Zealand, headlined by Olympic and former Ironman World Champion Kristian Blummenfelt. Just five minutes later, at 7:50 CET, the professional women will dive in the waters of Taupo, with athletes such as Kat Matthews among the favorites.
There’s more than just the race victory on the line. Athletes will also be battling for four coveted qualification slots for the Ironman World Championship on Kona later this year.
