In a race dominated by the French, where the podium was also completely colored in the well-known tricolore, Louis Vitiello has just won the Europe Triathlon Cup Monte Gordo. In the women’s race, the win went to the Hungarian, young but already remarkably successful Fanni Szalai.
In a race over the Sprint Distance, the differences are actually always small and this time was no different. The top ten in the men’s race finished within half a minute of each other and the first three finishers were French. Vitiello proved to be the strongest and ultimately finished in 51:36, while his compatriots Milan Lariviere (+0:09) and Yanis Seguin (+0:14) finished second and third respectively. The Belgian Jens Smolders (+0:17) just missed out on the podium and finished fourth.
In the women’s race, the gaps were about twice as large, as the top ten finished within exactly one minute of each other. At the finish line, Fanni Szalai had a reasonably comfortable margin, as the young Hungarian finished in 58:10 minutes, staying 22 seconds ahead of the Italian Carlotta Missaglia. The British Eve Whitaker completed the podium and finished 28 seconds behind the eventual winner.
