Hungarian Mark Devay has just won the World Title Aquathlon. In a very hot Samorin – already in the morning it was over thirty degrees – he led the race over 1 kilometer of swimming and 5 kilometers of running right from the start. “I am one of the better swimmers within the triathlon world and wanted to make a difference right there. But it did hurt.”
Devay won the race in 28:54, staying fifteen seconds ahead of Spaniard Kevin Tarek Vinuela Gonzalez. Romanian Felix Duchampt finished third at 45 seconds behind. Despite thus dictating the race, Devay did experience a tough day. “With this format, there is no moment to relax. And it was ten degrees hotter than all the venues I’ve been to in recent weeks. It was really tough.”
The women’s race was won by German Celine Kaiser (32:51). Maryna Kyryk (UKR, 33:22) and Antoanela Manac (ROU, 34:26) got second and third.
