Canadian professional triathlete Paula Findlay is back riding Specialized bikes, having ridden the brand earlier during her Olympic distance career. The move was announced by both Findlay and Specialized Triathlon on social media.
The Specialized Shiv Disc will be Findlay’s race machine for this season, while she has also been spotted on a sharp looking S-Works Tarmac Road frame.
Findlay has become one of the biggest names in the sport of late thanks to her run of wins in Daytona over the last couple of years. After winning Ironman 70.3 Indian Wells – La Quinta and Challenge Daytona in December, 2019, she took the PTO 2020 Championship and the US$100,000 first prize a year later.
Findlay first burst onto the international scene with a run of ITU World Triathlon Series (WTS) wins in 2010 and 2011 – she won five straight WTS events, making her a favorite for the Olympics in 2012. She arrived in London dealing with a series of injuries, though, and struggled to get across the finish line there. The next few years saw her continue to deal with injury issues, but she was able to put herself in contention to be named to Canada’s 2016 Olympic squad. She wasn’t named to that team, or the 2018 Commonwealth Games team, though, and started to look at long-distance racing.
It wasn’t long before her talent in long-distance shone through. Second in her first half-distance race in Santa Cruz, she took the Ironman 70.3 Pro Championship title in St. George in 2018. She now appears to be committed to long-distance racing and is focused on a top finish at the 70.3 world championships later this year. That race takes place on a course she’s won on before in St. George, Utah.
