In a major milestone for South American endurance sport, Valdivia has been announced as the host city for Chile’s first Full Distance Ironman triathlon. The historic debut will take place on November 29, 2026, and will run alongside the already established IM 70.3 Valdivia, creating a festival-like weekend of long-course racing in the south of Chile.
Nestled in the country’s picturesque Lake District, Valdivia offers a spectacular stage for athletes to tackle the 140.6-mile (226.2 km) challenge. From the tranquil Calle-Calle River to forest-lined bike routes and flat, fast city run paths, the course promises both beauty and performance potential.
“We’re excited to bring the full Ironman experience to Chile,” said Joanna Jordan, Vice President of IM Latin America. “Valdivia has already shown incredible support for the sport through the Ironman 70.3 event, and we’re confident this community will deliver a world-class full-distance race.”
Race Director Fernanda Castro, representing World Centric Group, added, “This is a landmark event for our country. Hosting both the full and half-distance races on the same day in the same location will create an unforgettable experience for athletes and spectators alike.”
The swim will launch from the calm, scenic waters of the Calle-Calle River, flanked by Valdivia’s iconic bridges. From there, the two-loop bike course stretches across the Chilean countryside, blending flat sections with challenging terrain, offering sweeping views of rivers, forests, and mountains. The marathon run finishes with a scenic loop through Valdivia’s historic center, following the riverside Costanera and main avenues.
