After a standout marathon debut earlier this year, British Olympic Triathlon Champion Alex Yee has made a triumphant return to the triathlon scene – claiming victory in his first race of the season at Supertri Toronto.

Back in April, Yee turned heads with a blistering 2:11:08 performance at the London Marathon, signaling his versatility as an endurance athlete. But today, in Toronto, he shifted gears entirely, tackling a radically different format with precision and poise.

The Supertri format in Toronto featured three rounds of racing, each consisting of a 300-meter swim, 4-kilometer bike, and 1.6-kilometer run, with six-minute breaks between rounds. After the first two heats, cumulative time gaps determined the staggered start for the third and final round – a structure that rewards tactical consistency as much as raw speed.

Yee executed his first two heats with surgical precision, establishing a narrow two-second lead over Portugal’s Vasco Vilaca heading into the decider. Close behind were a stacked field including Csongor Lehmann, Oliver Conway, Alberto Gonzalez Garcia, Mathis Beaulieu, and Charles Paquet – all within a 12-second striking range.

Despite the tight margins, the final swim and bike leg saw the lead group converge, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown on the run. For a brief moment, Lehmann and Vilaca stayed stride-for-stride with Yee. But around the halfway mark of the run, the Brit shifted into another gear – pulling away with such command that none of his rivals could respond.

Yee crossed the line first, with Lehmann trailing by four seconds and Vilaca rounding out the podium six seconds back.
