While yesterday’s announcement of Pamplona as the new host city for the Spanish T100 event drew plenty of attention, the most remarkable detail in the press release seemed to be that elite men and women would race on the same weekend and at the same venue. Now, just a day later, it turns out that this will not be the case.
Normally, it wouldn’t be unusual for men and women to compete in the same race. However, only a few weeks ago the PTO revealed that its T100 series would undergo major changes. One of those changes was that men and women would race separately – no longer on the same weekends, and no longer at the same locations.
Yet the original Pamplona announcement stated that both elite men and women would compete during the same weekend:
‘It will feature women’s and men’s professional 100km races, that will take place on the PTO’s global broadcast network, as well as a 100km amateur triathlon’.
The PTO has now walked that back in a direct message to this outlet. The press release has since been updated and now simply states:
‘It will feature a professional 100km race, that will take place on the PTO’s global broadcast network, as well as a 100km amateur triathlon’.
The PTO says it will announce at a later date whether the elite men or the elite women will compete in Pamplona and other races as well.
