Having only gotten rid of his dreaded zero just a few weeks ago – after previously managing to take an almost countless number of second and third places before winning WTCS Samarkand – the Portuguese Vasco Vilaca has just gone ahead and won the second WTCS of the season as well. In Alghero, he dealt with a large group of athletes during the run and ultimately came out on top.

Vilaca, who until last year had never won a WTCS, has now won the first two races of the 2026 season, laying a great foundation for the races yet to come. During the swim and bike, the race was dominated by a large group of men who stayed together, and as is often the case, the run had to bring the final decision today.

Early on during the run, only three men were left: in that phase, Vilaca was joined by the Brazilian Miguel Hidalgo and Australian Luke Willian. The latter, however, was quickly dropped, leaving only Vilaca and Hidalgo. And it stayed that way for a long time, as both men remained together until the final stages, until Vilaca ultimately placed a decisive acceleration to claim a great victory.

Vilaca won the race in 1:45:16, Hidalgo finished second in 1:45:35, and the Portuguese Ricardo Batista finished third in 1:45:45.
