Jan Frodeno shared some crazy news with the world today. One of the favorites for the win at Challenge Miami has been denied entry to the United States. The German athlete shared a photo on his Instagram of his luggage with the note: “And just like that the trip is over. Didn’t have a travel exemption and everyone else did.”

Travel complications are not a surprise during these uncertain and crazy times, but Frodeno’s issues, while the rest of the field appear to be OK as long as they hand over the right papers is a shock to everyone who looked forward to watching the athlete return to racing again.

Frodeno won’t give up and shared a message later saying he is “trying to catch some sleep and going to make a plan.”

We haven’t seen Frodeno in action since October 2019, when he won the Ironman World Championship. Yesterday, he shared a video on social media of his training, looking sharp and ready to race.

Besides Frodeno there is a strong line-up for the race in Challenge Miami, including Lucy Charles, Anne Haug, Ben Hoffman and Lionel Sanders. The event takes place on Mar. 12 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.
