Canadian-based timing company Sportstats, which has been timing Ironman events in North America since 1997, has extended its North American timing agreement with Ironman for another three years. The deal includes Ironman, Ironman 70.3 and Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon events in North America.
Sportstats is one of the largest timing companies in the world and was founded in Ottawa, Canada in 1991. It’s owned by Marc Roy and Isabelle Fradette, and has grown to include offices in the United States, Canada, Thailand and Singapore. In 2019 the company timed over 1,300 races and more than 2 million athletes around the world.
Sportstats will be using updated technology, improved data feeds for live event coverage, more timing mats on full-distance and marathon courses, along with new LED finish lines that will show participant names and times over the next three years.
“It’s an exciting moment for Ironman and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series in North America as we see the United States continue to open and we see interest in one of the world’s great sporting events continue to grow,” said Roy. “We’ve been working hard throughout the pandemic to be ready to meet the demand for live in-person Ironman events and we know that with the return of events, our technology will be better than anything competitors have ever seen.”
