Clash, the event orgaizers formally known as Challenge North America, have announced a festival weekend that will take place at the famed Watkins Glen International Speedway. The event is slated for July 8 to 10, 2022, the same weekend that Ironman 70.3 Musselman will take place in the same area.
The weekend’s events include a “WineK” 5 km run on Friday, an age group middle-distance race (1.9 km swim, 80 km bike and 16 km run) and 80 km bike and 16 km run events on the Saturday, along with a professional middle-distance race on the Sunday. Athletes entered in the event will also receive a free entry to the Finger Lakes Wine Festival.
“This picturesque triathlon will begin with athletes taking on a 1.2-mile swim in the southern portion of Seneca Lake right through the middle of downtown, the largest of the glacial finger lakes in New York State,” organizers said in a press release. “Water temperatures are expected to be mild at approximately 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit. A 50-mile bike ride is next with a point-to-point course that includes farmland, lake views and rolling topography. The 10-mile run will utilize the historic Watkins Glen International Speedway allowing participants to cross the line and then experience the Finger Lakes Wine Festival.”
“The Glen offers the most spectacular getaway with vineyards, waterfalls to hike, leisure canoeing and true glamping experiences that will make for a most memorable race getaway,” says Clash USA CEO Bill Christy. “The downtown area of Watkins Glen is not to be missed with boutiques and top chef inspired restaurants to keep families entertained throughout the festival weekend. Not to mention each athlete will be crossing the finish line directly into a party, the premier wine festival in the region. You’ll want to bring your whole crew, I will be!”
The Ironman 70.3 Musselman event is based out of Geneva, N.Y., which is situated at the opposite end of Seneca Lake from Watkins Glen – it’s slated to take place on July 10, the same day as the professional event for Clash Watkins Glen.
