Ironman announced today that it will add two more events to its European calendar next year – a full-distance race in Aix-en-Provence and a 70.3 event in Dresden.
The inaugural Ironman Aix-en-Provence will take place on May 22, 2022 along with Ironman 70.3 Pays d’Aix-en-Provence event, an event that has been run since 2011. The inaugural Ironman 70.3 Dresden is slated for July 31, 2022.
France now has three Ironman sites that offer both a full and half-distance – in addition to Pays d’Aix-en-Provence, Nice and Vichy both offer those distances. The new race in Pas d’Aix-en-Provence will offer qualifying spots for next year’s Ironman World Championship in October.
Dresden’s event features a swim in the Elbe River, followed by a bike through the Elbland and through the town of Meissen before following a flat, fast track along the river. The three-loop run course hits many of Dresden’s most famous landmarks before finishing in front of one of Europe’s most famous opera houses, the Semperoper.
The new event in Dresden will offer qualifying slots for the 2023 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Lahti, Finland.
