A few months ago few people had heard of Chris Nikic. That’s changed now, though, since Nikic became the first athlete with Down Syndrome to complete a Long Distance at Ironman Florida. Sports Illustrated, a renowned American sports magazine, has even nominated Nikic for the “Inspiritation of the Year” Award.
On December 19th, Nikic will learn whether he has actually won the award. Also in the running are American football (soccer) player, Sarah Fuller, and basketball players Jaylen Brown and Maya Moore. On the 19th Sports Illustrated will present various awards, with the “Sportsperson of the Year” being the most prestigious. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (American Football), Breanna Stewart (Basketball), Patrick Mahomes (American Football), Lebron James (Basketball) and Naomi Osaka (Tennis) are nominated for that award.
