After so many races have been cancelled, it’s good to see the triathlon winter season will kick off soon with a first race on the calendar: World Triathlon Winter Cup Asiago. On Feb. 19, 2021, the Italian ski resort will host a winter triathlon consisting of a 4 km run, a 12 km MTB-ride, and a 10 km long ski course.

“Asiago is now ready to host this event after successfully hosting two consecutive Winter Triathlon World Championships in 2019 and 2020. This year, for the World Cup, elite races will be held on Friday, February 19th, with a winter cross duathlon event planned for Saturday and the Italian National Championships planned for Sunday,” according to World Triathlon.

The races will take place in the Centro di Fondo Campolongo within the Venetian mountain range in the north of Italy. At an average altitude of 1,500 m, there will be plenty of snow, making it an ideal location for winter triathlon. Last year the World Triathlon Winter Cup was held in freezing conditions of -16 C in Harbin, China.

The next event on the winter triathlon calendar is World Triathlon Andorra Winter Championships on Mar. 19-21, 2021, part of Ironman’s new Andorra Multisport Festival.

The winter triathlon that was set to take place in Romania on Mar. 13-14, 2021, the Cheile Gradistei European Championships, has been postponed until December, 2021.
