The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) will put up a prize purse for the middle-distance professional race at the Sun City Ultra Triathlon on May 2, The race takes place at the Sun City resort in South Africa, which is about 140 km northwest of Johannesburg.
The field includes many of South Africa’s top pros – on the men’s side Kyle Buckingham, Matt Trautman and Mike Ferreira. The women’s pro field includes Annah Watkinson, Emma Pallant, Natia Van Heerden, Jade Nicole Roberts and Magda Nieuwoudt.
The PTO recently supported the South African National Championships, won by 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Henri Schoeman and Great Britain’s Emma Pallant – she’s married to a South African and lives there.
The unique course for the middle-distance pro race includes a 1.9 km swim with a rolling start, a challenging 90 km bike with 300 m of climbing and a 21 km run that goes around golf courses at the resort.
