A few months ago, it was already announced that the World Triathlon Cross Triathlon World Championships would be held in Extremadura (Spain), but another race has now been added to the event calendar: the World Triathlon Aquathlon World Championships. The races are both to be held in the weekend of Oct. 30-31, 2021. The events were originally planned to take place during the Multisport Championships in Almere this week, but due to COVID-19 only the World Triathlon Long Distance Championships and the World Triathlon Championships Aquabike will take place this Sunday, Sep. 12, 2021.

The 2021 World Triathlon Duathlon World Championships will take place in Aviles (Spain) the week after the events in Extremadura. Thus, for athletes aiming to collect multiple world titles within a few days, Spain is the place to be in October and November.

“It is fantastic news that the Aquathlon World Championships will also be held in Extremadura as it adds to the true spirit of these competitions: the concept of the Multisport Championship Festival,” World Triathlon President and IOC Member, Marisol Casado, said. “Having three world championships in Spain in two weeks brings a great opportunity to athletes from all around the world to discover these two regions of Spain, Extremadura and Aviles, with multiple options for easily connecting both cities,” Casado – who’s Spanish – adds.
