Not only Flora Duffy was awarded for her golden performance at the Tokyo Olympics, also the British Mixed Relay team was given the honor of an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) at the end of 2021, as their names were added to the Queen’s New Year’s honors list. Jonathan Brownlee, Jessica Learmonth, Georgia Taylor-Brown and Alex Yee received this special title to thank them for their excellent performance during the first-ever Mixed Relay triathlon event at the Olympics. On Jul. 31, 2021, the team managed to outrun America and France, who finished with a silver and bronze medal.

Learmonth looks back at a fantastic year, although, it didn’t start off like that: “Beginning 2021 with a sacrum fracture wasn’t the ideal start. Thankfully, it turned out better than I’d hoped! An Olympic medal, a wild month with Super League Triathlon (won by Learmonth, ed.) and topped off with an MBE in the New Years honors list. I’m so lucky to have amazing friends, family and coaches. I’ll be forever grateful for all your support.”

“MBE… An honor to be recognized in the Queen’s New Year’s honors list with my teammates. Thanks to these special people and so many more. Here’s to 2022”, Yee wrote on Instagram.

Brownlee said: “2021, what a year… The year when dreams came true, very special memories and lots of love. Finished off by being recognized on the Queen’s New Year Honors List with an MBE. Thanks so much to everyone who made this year so special and for all the support along the way.”

“Little did I know on the 1st of Jan. 2021 that I would be leaving the year with two Olympic Medals, an MBE to my name and a place on the New Year’s Honors List. Wow! Always humbled and forever grateful for the support I receive”, Taylor-Brown stated.
