It is an always strong-attended triathlon that is also high on the wish list of several professional athletes; the Volcano Triathlon. The race around Club La Sansa at Lanzarote took place today and was won by the Italian Gregory Barnaby. In the women’s race it was Spain’s Sara Perez Sala who was the strongest athlete of the day.

Sala finished the tough Olympic Distance race in a time of 2:03:38. That left her more than two minutes ahead of Italy’s Giorgia Priarone, who came in second after 2:05:48. Shortly behind Priarone it was Marta Bernardi who finished third in a time of 2:06:32.

In the men’s race, the differences were bigger and Barnaby proved to be by far the best athlete of the day. With a time of 1:51:41, he left no doubt and won the race by a wide margin. Belgian Dieter Comhair came closest, finishing second in a time of 1:55:37. German Per van Vlerken finished third in a time of 1:56:13.
