A great day for Italy’s Giorgia Priarone, who was just crowned the 2022 European Champion Duathlon in Bilbao. She shared the podium with France’s Marion Legrand (+0:03) and Belgium’s Maurine Ricour (+0:06), who took second and third respectively.
In the U23 category, it was Spain’s Marta Romance who won the race. She managed to stay ahead of Spain’s Marina Munoz Hernando (+2:14) and Swiss’ Delia Sclabas (+2:17). Including the elite, Romance finished in 10th place, Munoz Hernando in 17th place and Sclabas in 18th position.
After the first run, a little group of seven athletes managed to stay together in front of the field, running approximately 16:15 minutes over 5000 meters. Priarone, Legrand and Ricour were all part of that leading group.
On the bike, they stayed together, which saw it all come down to the final run. With Priarone requiring only 8:03 minutes to complete the final 2500 meters, she was first across the finish line and brought home the gold medal. It didn’t take long before Legrand and Ricour followed, though. Within six seconds, the entire elite podium was complete.
