For some reason, the World Triathlon Cup Miyazaki was not the strongest race you normally see at this level and that resulted in two winners who are perhaps less likely to be seen on the top step of the podium; Gianluca Pozzatti and Alberte Kjaer Pedersen.

It was the Danish Pedersen who won the race in a time of 1:00:43. As always at a Sprint Distance – 750 meter swim, 20 kilometer bike and 5 kilometer run – the field was close together. Italy’s Ilaria Zane finished 12 seconds behind Pedersen in second and Britain’s Olivia Mathias was just one second behind Zane and finished third.

In the men’s race, the differences were even smaller and so it was Pozzatti who won. He did so in a time of 53:11 minutes. Just six seconds after Pozzatti, Alberto Gonzalez Garcia crossed the finish line; the Spaniard thus claimed the second spot. Seven seconds after the winner, the podium was complete as then Ricardo Batista from Portugal finished as third athlete.
