While all athletes are ready to start in a few hours at the WTCS in Abu Dhabi, for now it is highly uncertain whether the race will go ahead. Abu Dhabi is dealing with a massive storm that will sweep across the city and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council has recommended – following a national warning – that all outdoor sports activities taking place this Friday, next Saturday and Sunday must be canceled.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the coming days, as well as severe hail. In any case, the bike course reconnaissance has already been cancelled and at the time of writing all kinds of meetings are taking place to look at the possibilities. The start is scheduled at 13:00 CET (women) and 15:00 CET (men). For now, at least, it looks like the race will not take place today.
