It is remarkable news – especially given that the Indoor Triathlon World Cup Liévin has been hugely popular for years. Both World Triathlon and the PTO, the organizations behind the event, had already included the race several times in their announcements for 2026. Nevertheless, the event will not take place as planned. At the very least, it will not be held on 7 March 2026, and while no new date has been communicated, no official reason has been given for the postponement either.
The Indoor Triathlon World Cup Liévin is an ultra-short indoor triathlon held in the covered athletics stadium in Liévin. Athletes swim in a specially constructed pool, then complete ultra-short cycling laps before finishing with a run. “All parties remain fully committed to indoor triathlon in Lievin and will work together to explore options to reschedule the event in the future, with the ambition of returning with an edition that lives up to the passion and commitment shown by the community,” a press release stated.
The Liévin indoor triathlon has been very successful for several years and has been part of the World Triathlon Cup calendar since last year. In 2025, the race was organized by the PTO and rebranded as the T1 Liévin World Triathlon Indoor Cup. In response to questions from athletes about whether the race will be rescheduled or definitively canceled, organizers have said that work is ongoing behind the scenes to find a new date.
“Despite conversations with all the local stakeholders and a thorough review of all possible solutions to continue with the original date, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the event, as we would not have been able to deliver the experience to the high standards we’ve set previously in Lievin and which our athletes, partners and spectators expect. We also don’t want to compromise the long-term sustainability of the project”
