Swiss’ Nicola Spirig has been dominant in the world of triathlon for years, whether we’re talking about the short distance or Middle Distance. She might be 40 years old and mother of three kids, Spirig is still on fire. This year, she managed to win five Middle Distances, while also finishing 6th at the Olympics. With a big goal on the horizon – the Pho3nix SUB8 project – Spirig is training hard to transition towards long-distance racing. Although it’s only January, she already proved to be in a great shape, as Spirig won the local Swiss Dietiker new year’s run on Jan. 8, 2022.

Spirig won the race in a time of 43:39 minutes over a distance of 12.1 kilometers. That’s nearly two minutes slower than the PB she set on this course in 2020 (41:58 minutes), but there’s a great explanation for that: Spirig would have warmed-up by running twenty km before the event to get from her house to the race start.

Despite warming-up for twenty km, Spirig noted an impressive average pace of 3:36 minutes per km.
