He lost some time in the water, on the bike he got stuck in no man’s land, but on the run Kristian Blummenfelt attacked. The Norwegian star athlete just won the Ironman World Championship in St. George, just one year after he was crowned Olympic Champion. He’s only the second person ever – after Jan Frodeno – to win both Olympic gold and the Ironman World Championship. Blummenfelt had to work hard for his medal today, for a while it nearly seemed impossible, but he ended up to living up to everyone’s expectations.
Behind Blummenfelt the battle between Lionel Sanders and Braden Currie for second place was beyond exciting. It was Sanders who ended up passing Currie in the final stretch thanks to an impressive sprint. That means silver went to Sanders and Currie settled for bronze.
